Boom, Crash...then the Thunder Roll

To quickly sum up our Saturday...we were at softball games all day. Fortunately, the official high didn't get above 93 degrees. Annee and the Southern Kentucky Thunder played in the 6 and Under ASA State Invitational Softball Tournament. The Thunder and the South Hardin All-Stars were the class of the field. As luck would have it, they also were the first game of the day on Saturday with an 8:30 start time. South Hardin clobbered the Thunder and sent them to the day long losers bracket. Six games later the Thunder emerged as state champions. After the loss to South Hardin, the Thunder had to beat the Butler County Blast (twice), the Kentucky Diamonds, and the Marshall County Magic before earning a rematch with South Hardin at 7:00 pm. The game started like the first one of the morning and the Thunder were down 9-1 after the top of the 3rd innings. The Thunder finally prevailed in extra innings setting up the rubber game 12 hours after the first one started. Although the Thunder trailed early, the hole was not nearly as deep as the first two games. Heading into the bottom of the final inning the Thunder trailed by one. Annee singled and scored the game tying run. After the victory celebration we finally headed home 14 hours after they day started. Hayden seemed to have a good time. He was able to hang out with some of the other brothers and does a good job cheering for his sister. The Thunder play next in a national tournament in July. Fortunately, today was a bit more laid back for the family. After church and lunch, we spent most of the afternoon at the pool. Below is a brief summary of Saturday from beginning to end.

Fresh as a daisy at 7:30 in the morning.

Hayden and Heather enjoying some seeds as the Thunder start to roll.

Annee between early games.

Annee getting ready to continue the longstanding Lasley tradition of fleet feet.

Annee winning the race home against the Kentucky Diamonds. She didn't realize that someone was chasing her until we showed her the picture.

Between game frivolity. The switch was made to Vegas Gold uniforms for the afternoon games.

More between game fun.

The mighty Annee at bat.

There were a few tense moments as the Thunder battle South Hardin in a rematch.

Post game line up to recieve their trophies.

All's well that ends well. Time to go home and order a pizza!

Side Out...

Annee wrapped up volleyball camp at WKU on Wednesday. She had a good time. Since we go to almost all of the home volleyball games she knew who the girls were that worked the camp. WKU has been to 3 of the last 4 NCAA tournaments but has some rebuilding to do this year. They should be pretty good however. Below are a few pictures of limited quality from camp. On the softball front, the Thunder scrimmaged up in Morgantown on Tuesday so the Lasley family made their first trip to Butler County. The Thunder dominated both games and Annee crushed the ball in the 2nd game (two home runs - and not the kind that are based solely on a comedy of errors). There is a state invitational tournament here this weekend. We'll have pictures and updates on Sunday. Finally - I shot a two over par 73 at Crosswinds yesterday. Didn't play as well today but still pretty pleased with with the status of my game.

Ready for action.

Megan Argabright (left) and Aquila Orr were two of the coaches at the camp. Miss Argabright is perhaps the best volleyball player in the history of WKU volleyball and graduated last year.

Coach Travis Hudson's son Tyler attended La Petite with Annee and Hayden. He has led WKU to four NCAA tournaments.

A Great Father's Day

We had a great Father's Day Sunday. The best part of Father's Day is that it is a great reminder of how fortunate I am. After opening presents and making our way to church we had a fantastic lunch at Shogun. We braved the heat to watch the Hot Rods win their last game before the all-star break. They won 2-0 on a one-hitter. We also had the opportunity to move some of Heather's stuff into her new classroom.

Cubs Season Ends; Thunder Ready to Roll

The Cubs wrapped up their season on Friday night with a tough loss to the Mets. The highlight (at least for the Lasleys) was Hayden throwing out a runner at 1st from right field. The Thunder (Annee's tournament team) play a scrimmage against Butler County on Tuesday and play in a state tournament on Saturday. She is also attending volleyball camp at WKU this week. Hopefully we'll be able to sneak in a trip or two to the swimming pool as well.

Win Streak Comes to End

The Cubs two game winning streak came to a screeching halt last night. The Padres pounded the Cubs 21-0. The Cubs only had one runner reach 2nd base. On a positive note, the Padres were held to less than seven runs in two consecutive innings. The Cubs play again on Thursday night.

Annee and Hayden also attended the first night of Vacation Bible School. Hope to have a couple of pictures tomorrow.

Thunderstruck!

Annee made her debut with the Southern Kentucky Thunder Friday night and Saturday morning. Annee did quite well in what was clearly a step up in competition from her Wildcat team. The Thunder are a six and under traveling softball team which actually doesn't travel this year since all three tournaments they play in are in Bowling Green. They won their Invitational winning all four games fairly easily. They play next in the state tournament on June 27 & 28.

Holy Cow! Cubs Win!

The Cubs won their playoff game this morning 10-8 over the Giants. Their winning streak (and win total for the year) is now at 2! Hayden played a key role in the victory with 4 runs batted in. The Cubs play again on Monday against the Padres who are undefeated on the year.

Might as well jump...

Annee attended Jumpin Jaguar University (aka jump rope camp) this week. They did a brief presentation on Thursday which was quite entertaining. Heather helped out with Camp Invention also. While the girls were busy campers, Hayden and I hit the practice range, the batting cage, and the basketball court. The pictures didn't turn out that well but here are a couple from Annee's jump rope camp.

Seasons Winding Down

We are near the end of the season for softball and baseball. Hayden and the Cubs wrapped up the regular season with a big win over the Jays. The momentum is clearly on their side for the playoffs. The playoffs are double elimination so they have at least two more games left. Annee has just one more game left for the Wildcats but she is also playing for a 6 and under traveling team call the Thunder. She will have three tournaments with the Thunder including one this weekend. Annee also has jump rope camp this week.
