5th Grade!!

Summer is over for at least three of us.  I dropped off Heather, Annee, and Hayden off for the first day of school this morning.  Annee has Mrs. Whittle and is across the hall from Heather.  She will get to have her for reading.  Hayden is just around the corner with Mrs. Ross.  I got to celebrate the start of school with a trip to the dentist.

Hayden is signed up for football and we sign Annee up for volleyball on Saturday.  Annee is also swimming this fall but is not dancing this year.

We seemed to take the summer off for posting but will try to post some pictures soon.

Memorial Day

I was one of the guests on Kentucky Tonight on Memorial Day so we made our way over to Lexington for an evening. We stopped by Perryville Battlefield on the way. Perryville was the site of the biggest battle of the Civil War that took place in Kentucky. After doing some shopping on Tuesday, we stopped by Four Roses Distillery on the way home. Four Roses is one of the stops on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail.

2012 Dance Recital

Annee's Spring Dance Recital was held the Friday and Sunday of Memorial Day.  She did a very nice job.  Below are a couple of pictures and a link to a video of the performance.

Here is the link to this years dance.  A link to her dance from two years ago is also posted!

End of School Year

Annee and Hayden have now been out of school for a little over a week.   Below are the before and after pictures with their teachers.  They both did quite well on their final report cards and earned all As for the year.  They are both going to be on the swim team at Southland this summer.  This will be Hayden's first experience with the swim team.  He indicated that the first two practices were hard!  Annee thought they were pretty easy compared to those at Race.

Annee and Mrs. Johnson - Annee did not catch Mrs. Johnson in height but she has caught her brother. She is now 3/8 of an inch taller than Hayden.

Hayden did catch Mrs. Zinobile in height. It is the first teacher that he has been taller than. It is safe to assume that she won't be the last.

Catching Up

Looks like it has been almost a month between posts.  Will try to get caught up on some events in this post before wrapping up spring break pictures.  Below are some highlights.  Heather and the kids have just one more week of school left!!

Annee & Hayden did outstanding jobs in their recorder concerts.

Hayden got to go to a roller skating birthday party.  He was definitely more slow than steady.

I made my annual trip to the Day at the Downs with the Chlarsons.  Kevin's law firm has an event on Millionaires Row on the Thursday before the Derby.  I won the first bets of the day before going on a cold streak.

Spring volleyball wrapped up.  Here are Annee and Savannah at Culver's after the final game.  Annee is signed up for two volleyball camps this summer - one at Greenwood and at WKU.

Hayden's dragon was selected for display at another art show.  This one was at the Warren County Board of Education Office.  Hayden is making sure that we get some culture.

DC - Cupcakes

One thing the trip taught us is the power of television. After watching DC Cupcakes on TLC, Annee wanted to go to Georgetown Cupcake while we were in Washington. We never did quite get into the original Georgetown Cupcake location, but we did find suitable substitutes. We tried the Georgetown location after supper on Saturday. After the girls spent about 25 minutes in line (the boys went for ice cream) with no end in site, we gave up to try again another day. We never did make it back to the original location, but did discover Crumbs on Sunday. According to those who partook, Crumbs had great cupcakes and, more importantly, no lines. While, the girls had cupcakes, the boys found FroZenYo to satisfy their sweet tooth. Crumbs made such an impression we made a return trip a couple of days later. The good news is that we did finally get to try the cupcakes at Georgetown Cupcake. We just went to their new location in Bethesda in the morning of our last day in Washington. Annee got her tee shirt and we got cupcakes with no lines and easy parking!

We had plenty of time for pictures while the girls were in line.

Fortunately, Crumbs came to the rescue for those who wanted to satisfy their cupcake cravings.

DC - Arlington Cemetery

As part of our Saturday activities, we made our pilgrimage to Arlington Cemetery for the Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. We also made our stops by John F. Kennedy's grave and Arlington House - Robert E. Lee's home before the Civil War.

DC - Capitol Tour

We ventured over for a tour of the Capitol on Saturday. As always, the tour was a highlight of a visit to DC.
