Hayden Competes in 1st Youth Challenge, Drakes Sweeps St. Joe's in VB

Hayden competed in the first cross country youth challenge on Tuesday.  He ran the 2k in 9:39.  There are 8 teams from Warren County that participate in the challenges.  The first one was at Kereiakes Park which is probably the most difficult of the four county locations for cross country meets.  Hayden competes in the Warren East Raider Twilight Run on Saturday.

On Thursday, Drakes Creek swept St. Joe's in volleyball.  The 7th grade team is now 3-1 after posting a 25-10, 25-8 victory.  The 8th grade team evened its record at 5-5 with a pair of 25-22 wins.  Annee served 13 straight points early in the 2nd set of the 7th grade game to help Drakes build a big lead.

South Warren Sweeps Drakes

Drakes Creek 7th and 8th grade volleyball teams fell to South Warren Monday evening.  The 7th grade team lost in 3 sets.  After losing 12-25 in the first set, Drakes won the second set 26-24 before dropping the tie breaker 13-15.  South Warren had not lost a set in 7th or 8th grade district games since 2011.  The 8th grade team fell 10-25, 10-25 and is now 4-5 on the year.  The rematch will be Thursday, September 19.     

Drakes VB - 7th Grade Wins, 8th Grade Falls

The Drakes Creek 7th grade volleyball team moved to 2-0 on the year with a 25-20, 25-7 win against Bowling Green Junior High on Thursday.  The 8th grade team fell to 4-4 with a 15-25, 20-25 loss.  Annee played pretty well, particularly in the 7th grade game.  Unfortunately, I did not end up with any good pictures.  Drakes will take on South Warren on Monday evening.  Last year South Warren 7th and 8th grade teams did not lose a set in conference play. 

Drakes Creek Sweeps Moss Middle; Hayden Runs Time Trial

Drakes Creek opened their conference schedule Tuesday with a sweep over Moss.  They won the 7th grade match 25-8 and 25-11 and the 8th grade team won 25-12 and 25-16.  Annee will be playing for both the 7th and 8th grade teams this season.  Drakes plays Bowling Green Junior High on Thursday.  Hayden ran the Greenwood Time Trial that was postponed from Saturday morning.  He ran the 2k in about 8:45.  Greenwood's home course is a bit faster than most of the CC courses in the county but it was a pretty good time for him.  Hayden is scheduled to have a couple of races next week including a youth challenge on Tuesday and the Raider Twilight Run next Saturday.  Football has also started for Hayden.  He is playing for the Ravens again.

A Full Saturday

We had a pretty full Saturday.  Annee (and Heather) made her middle school debut for Drakes Creek at the South Warren Volleyball Tournament.  Drakes Creek finished 3-3 in the tournament and tied for 5th out of 15 teams.  Most of the teams were 8th grade teams, so Drakes had one of the younger teams.  Most of the time it was about half and half between 8th graders and 6th/7th graders.  Annee played well.  They will scrimmage Franklin-Simpson on Tuesday before starting their conference schedule the next week.  I will work on doing a better job getting pictures next match.  Hayden and his cross country team participated in an race for elementary and middle school students early in the morning.  It poured until the scheduled start time but they were able to get the race in.  Elementary runners ran 2k (which they will run in most of the their meets).  Hayden did quite well.  He finished in 9:30 and finished 20th overall.  He will run in the team time trials on Saturday.  He will start football practice on Monday the 19th.  Finally, I wrapped up the evening with this years Lincoln-Reagan Day Dinner.  We had a pretty good schedule and crowd.  U.S. Senators Rand Paul & Mitch McConnell both attended, along with our local Congressman - not a bad lineup for a county event.

6th Graders!!

We are going to try to restart the blog.  Heather, Annee, and Hayden had their first day of school Thursday.  This will be the last first day that they have at Briarwood.  Below are a couple of pictures form the first day.  Fall is going to be pretty busy.  Annee is playing and Heather is helping to coach volleyball for Drakes Creek Middle School.  They play in a tournament on Saturday.  Once volleyball wraps up, she will restart swimming.  Hayden is running cross country and will be playing football.  Hayden ran in an intrasquad Beat the Coach meet last Saturday and will run in another race this Saturday.  Football practice will start a week from Monday.
