Gators Wrap Up Regular Season; Ravens Fall in Double Overtime

Annee and Heather wrapped up their regular season with a sweep of St. Joe's on Thursday.  The 7th grade team (10-2) will be the 2nd seed in the tournament that starts Monday.  The 8th grade team (11-7, 8-4) will be seeded 3rd and starts tournament play on Tuesday.  Championship games for 7th and 8th grade are scheduled for Wednesday.

The Ravens fell in double overtime 38-32 to the Bengals in a battle of unbeaten teams.  The Bengals had won their first four games by an average of about 40 points and had not been scored on before last night.  Overall, there were far more positives than negatives although we let the game slip away.  The Ravens return to action on Wednesday against the Jets.

Gators Sweep Warren East

Drakes Creek swept Warren East in volleyball on Monday.  The 7th grade (9-2) rolled to an easy two set victory to secure the 2nd seed for next week's district tournament.  Annee started the first set off with 15 consecutive service points to kick off a 25-3 victory.  It took three sets, but the 8th grade survived their match to run their record to 7-4 in district play and 10-7 overall.  The Gators wrap up the regular season at St. Joe's on Thursday.

Ravens 4-0, Gators Fall to South Warren

Grandma Ann and Grandpa Jimmy were here for a busy week of events.  The were able to watch some volleyball, football, and cross country.  They also were able to get some golf in.  Annee had two volleyball matches.  The 7th & 8th grade teams both won easily against Bowling Green Christian Academy on Wednesday.  On Thursday, the 7th grade team fell short in their rematch against South Warren losing 20-25, 23-25.  The 8th grade match wasn't as close.  The 7th grade team is now 8-2, while the 8th grade is 9-7 overall and 6-4 in district action.  Drakes Creek has two more games before the tournament which starts September 30th.  Annee was also selected for all-state choir for the 2nd consecutive year.  The good news is that it is in Bowling Green this year.  The down side is that it is the same time as one of her swim meets.

Hayden also had a couple of football games and a cross county youth challenge.  Hayden knocked a couple of seconds off his previous time at the Phil Moore Park youth challenge on Tuesday.  The Ravens won both of their games.  They escaped with a 14-8 win against the 49ers on Thursday before beating the Falcons 54-0 Saturday morning.  Hayden got to play two quarters of defense on Saturday.  He did pretty well with the exception of being called for a personal foul for a late hit.  The Ravens will have their toughest game of the season on Thursday against the Bengals.

Ravens Hang On

The Ravens scored early and then hung on to defeat the Chargers 8-0 on Saturday.  The Ravens are now 2-0 and play the 49ers on Thursday and the Falcons on Saturday.

A post game talk after a hard fought win.

Annee and the Drakes Creek Middle School volleyball team went to Mellow Mushroom (pictured below) and the WKU volleyball game on Saturday.  Annee and her friend Savannah were selected to participate in the halftime contest.  They had to put on a WKU uniform (pictured above) and then serve the ball in Big Red's mouth.  Annee pulled out the victory to win some free popcorn.  WKU started the weekend ranked #21 in the country and defeated Virginia Friday night.

Ravens Win Opener, Gators Sweep East

The Ravens started their 2013 campaign with a comeback 8-6 victory over the Cowboys.  The Ravens survived a 6-0 halftime deficit and four turnovers.  The offensive line started a bit slow but came to life in the second half.  The Ravens play again on Saturday against the Chargers.

Drakes Creek VB also had a good evening.  The 7th grade ran their record to 6-1 with a 25-11, 25-10 victory, while the 8th grade (8-5, 5-2) won 25-17, 25-15.  The Gators play at Bowling Green on Tuesday.

Ravens Scrimmage, Happy Grandparents Day

The Warren County Youth Football League Jamboree was held Saturday.  The Jamboree is when they take pictures and the teams scrimmage before playing their first games of the season.  The Ravens defeated the Chargers in their scrimmage.  After a scoreless first half (they played two 20 minutes halves), the Ravens scored three touchdowns in the second half.  The Ravens start the season for real on Monday against the Cowboys.

Today after church we celebrated Grandparents Day with A&H's 5th set of grandparents - Ms. Cathy and Mr. Mike.  Our church started an adopted grandparents program last year and Ms. Cathy and Mr. Mike were matched up with A&H.  It has worked out very well and helps fill the gaps between visits from grandparents who don't live so close.  They attend many of A&H's games and have taken them out to eat.  They are also going to serve as A&H's confirmation mentors this year.

Gators Swamp Moss; Ravens Open Season on Monday

Drakes Creek rolled to victories over Moss Middle School on Thursday.  The 7th grade Gators (5-1) won 25-10, 25-4, while the 8th grade team (7-5, 4-2) won 25-13, 25-4.  The second half of the season starts Monday with a match at Warren East.  Hayden's football season also kicks off Monday against the Cowboys.  The Ravens only return 5 players from last season's Toy Bowl championship team so it should be interesting to see how the season will go.

Drakes Creek Posts Two More Wins

Drakes Creek 7th and 8th grade volleyball teams posted wins on Tuesday against Bowling Green Christian Academy.  The 7th grade team won 25-7, 25-11, while the 8th grade team won in three sets (22-25, 25-7, 15-9).  It wasn't a particularly sharp performance for the Gators.  7th grade is now 4-1 and the 8th grade moved to 6-5 (3-2 in district play) on the season.  The Gators return to the court on Thursday against Moss Middle School.

Hayden Starts 212° Academy

212° Academy started for Hayden last Monday.  The program is new this year.  Just as matter changes form when water becomes steam, 212° Academy is a place for high-ability 5th and 6th grade students to be transformed as they immerse themselves into an integrated Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) curriculum.  More information on the program can be found here.

Raider Twilight Run

Hayden finished 50th out of 149 elementary school runners at the Raider Twilight Run on Saturday night.  He had a time of 10:02 and was the third runner for the Greenwood Elementary team.  Greenwood finished 8th out of the 11 teams competing.  Unfortunately, Greenwood was without a couple of its top runners or they could have placed second or third.  Not sure when Hayden will be on the course again.  He will likely miss the next race because of football.
